About Let's Skate
Our Mission
At Let's Skate, we believe in the transformative power of skateboarding for personal growth and community development. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, our mission is to foster a vibrant and inclusive skate community at the Barb Iverson Skate Plaza. We aim to create a hub for skateboarding enthusiasts that also promotes inclusivity, creativity, and community engagement.
WE ARE
Let's Skate is a skateboarding community-based organization. Our lives have been positively impacted by the skateboard community, and we want to give back.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
We're building a privately funded state-of-the-art concrete skatepark and gifting it to the City of Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation.
HELPING OTHERS
After our successful fundraising for our park, we are working towards creating after-school programming and statewide community outreach. We aim to provide a space for families to gather, for inclusive connection and encouragement, and for kids to safely be exactly who they are.
It Starts With A Vision
With a passion for skateboarding stemming from his experiences growing up in Sioux Falls, Walter Portz and several friends recognized the need for a dedicated and quality skateboarding area. Portz has been instrumental in advocating for and leading the early efforts to build a state-of-the-art skatepark in Sioux Falls. His dedication to skateboarding and community development was a driving force behind the creation of the Barb Iverson Skate Plaza, a project aimed at providing a professional-grade skateboarding facility to the city.
